  • Successful Turning day, 4 lathes were in use all day
  • Gary and Bruce are going to Hillsboro Intermediate School Career Day, one more person is needed

New business

  • Discussed May 18 Turning Day at the Festus Band Building
  • Discussed Firecracker Festival on June 29th and 30th
  • Gary moved that all money from Twin City Days go to a food pantry, seconded by Craig, motion passed
  • Gary moved that all money from Firecracker days be used to refinish the band room floor, seconded by Carrie, motion retracted
  • Tim moved that the motion be tabled until the price of refinishing the floor was determined, Glen seconded, motion passed
  • A large number of books on woodworking were donated to the club and sold in a silent auction

  • Talked about use of the new room, including finishing the floors
  • Turning day at Paul’s April 27th
  • Arnie suggested different food options including a turn-n-eat bowl.
  • Last month’s president’s challenge tie was resolved with a drawing.

  • Friday May 10 Hillsboro Intermediate School Career Day
  • Received 4 more Craft Supplies gift certificates
  • 4 club hats were for sale for $15
  • The club was offered 2 tickets by the St. Louis Wood Turners club to a demonstration on April 6 with Alan Carter. Craig and Jerry received those tickets in a drawing with Gary as a backup attendee.
  • Steve Menendez, owner of Edge Tool Company is interested in getting into wood cutting band saw blades and wants feedback from wood turners.

February 14, 2013 Meeting Minutes

Treasurer’s report: $1390 after expenses and top sales from the show

Librarian absent

Old business

  • After a top blank-making workshop we have an inventory of 440 top blanks
  • Still waiting on shirt and cap prices from Joe
  • AAW not providing insurance - Our insurance covers theft, aaw does not
  • Dues money due starting next month

NEW BUSINESS

  • Woodworking show was successful.  We sold $98 worth of tops.
  • After wood show discussions we are seeking  a volunteer for natural edge bowl demonstration
  • Festus Band building has been secured for future meetings and 2 Saturday events.  We discussed possibly refinishing the floors in exchange for free use.
  • We are committed to a booth at the festival the weekend before the 4th (June 29th and 30th)
  • Spring turning day will be Saturday, April, 27th
  • May 18th will be first Saturday event in the new location.

January 10, 2013 Meeting Minutes

40 members and 6 guests were present.

Treasurer’s report: $1410 balance.

Library report: Terry has added a DVD by Eli Avisera on Rude Oslonik's candlestick design.  He wasn't impressed with the videos.  A new woodturning design magazine has been added.

Old business

  • Birdhouse distribution
    More than 180 birdhouse ornaments were handed out
  • Pens for troops
    Gary and Craig gave out 130 pens for troops at Jefferson Barracks
  • Collinsville Woodworking show
    Sign-up sheets for the woodworking show were passed out
  • Mastadon fair
    The Mastadon fair has been reduced to a 3-hour event, all agreed not to attend this year.
  • Joe will be getting prices for new club shirts and hats

NEW BUSINESS

  • Top building workshop
    Top blanks will be built at Glenn's house, only 124 are currently in stock.  Tops will be sold for $1 at the Collinsville woodworking show
  • The rates are going up for AAW insurance, so other options are being considered.
  • Jim is going to be looking into a new meeting place in Festus.
  • Library display will be removed from the Festus Public Library on January 19.
    An estimate on replacing the library display case lighting is being sought.
